Can I play battlefield 3 without internet connection?

I hear you can not play Battlefield 3 Campaign if you don't have internet connection, is that true? do I need internet ALWAYS in order to play Battlefield 3 Campaign?Can I play battlefield 3 without internet connection?
On PC you need origin to activate it, but you don't need the internet to actually play the campaign. You need to set origin to offline mode before opening Battlefield 3, you can do this through the settings, otherwise it can crash
THIS ANSWER IS INACCURATE. I own BF3 for PS3 and I cannot play any part of the game without having my ethernet cable plugged in and signed in to the Playstation Network - not even single player campaign mode. Says "You are offline" and "You have been disconnected from Playstation Network!"
