Here's the deal. Either one is capable of playing Battlefield 3 on High Settings after a few hundred dollars in customization. Both computers are good, but you have to put more into them to really make them as powerful as you are looking for.
If you can swing the extra money and are looking for an awesome video game experience get the MSI GT683R. It currently holds the most powerful laptop video card available and is a much better deal than most alienware products at $1500.
If you want to build yourself something from scratch that can play BF3 on High Settings you can probably get it done for about $1000 if you look in the right places(i.e. Newegg and TigerDirect) and already have a keyboard/mouse/monitor and a copy of windows 7.Will the m14x or Aurora run Battlefield 3 on high settings?
Yes. The MSI would run it without upgrades. I have a friend who is running BF2 at 75 fps with high graphics settings on his, so I'm sure that even with the more detailed graphics of BF3 you should be able to play it at least above 50 fps. Which is still much better than the console versions.
