Why is my battlefield 3 screen cut from two sides up and down?

since i bought battlefield 3 it hasn't been full screen and it has been cut from the upper and lower part of the screen making a 3.5 cm black screen on both sides. i have never faced this problem before on any other game. i am using an old JVC and connected through AV cables.|||the game isnt compatible with your tv
